PMDD, Trauma & The Truth About Healing No One Tells You

Is your PMDD more than just hormonal? Here’s the truth about the trauma link, why healing takes longer than you think, and why you’re not broken.

Let’s get something straight — PMDD isn’t always just about hormones.
I used to think I was “just sensitive,” that my rage and despair every month were a flaw in me. But it turns out my body was trying to tell me something: “You’re still in survival mode, love.”
For me, PMDD was the warning light. The flashing sign from my nervous system that said, “Hey! You’re still living with the effects of narcissistic abuse and self-abandonment.”
No one told me healing would take years. No one said I’d feel worse before I felt free. I thought maybe 6 months of therapy and some supplements would “fix me.” But this kind of healing? This is deep work. Root-level, identity-reclaiming, nervous-system-rewiring work.
And the hardest bit? Most therapists don’t get it. Not unless they’ve lived it. I’ve had sessions where I left feeling more broken than when I went in — because my trauma wasn’t recognised. That’s why trauma-informed, narc-savvy support is non-negotiable.
I wish someone had told me from the start: This will take time. But it will also set you free.
If you’re in the thick of it right now, please know: you’re not failing — you’re becoming.
